JAMES ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION IN 2008

January 21, 2008

 Dear Voter:

In a few weeks filing will open for County Commission. I wanted to let you know that I will be running again for County Commission – District 6 and ask for your support in both the GOP Primary on May 6th and, hopefully, in this November’s General Election on November 4th.

During my 12 years (at the end of this calendar year) in office, I have consistently tried to provide the public with the truth about the inner-workings of Mecklenburg County government and the privilege given to the few and well connected at the expense of the middle class. I have consistently stood against the rising tide of government spending that demands more money but no accountability and I would like to continue that effort on your behalf.

During the last several years Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have become more “world class” and “big city”. Thanks to Democrat majorities in the Legislature, County Commission and City; taxes have continued to escalate out of the reach of the average homeowner. The elderly on fixed incomes and those with families are hit even harder.  Next year the County is planning anotherrevalution. Democrats use these events to hide massive tax increases. The GOP were in control of the Commission during the last one in 2004 so this election will determine whether some folks end up with upwards of a 25% tax increase next year. The Democrats will deny this but this is what is coming without a change in direction.

The County continues to allow illegal immigrants to receive County tax dollars. The much planned ‘review’ by the County to determine policy changes regarding illegal use of your tax dollars has been quietly dropped by the majority in hopes that the public will not notice. I intend to make an issue of this in the coming months.

Fixing what is wrong in Charlotte takes electing individuals who will not wilt in the heat of battle. The latest example has been the fiasco of selecting a replacement Sheriff. It is in times like these when the public gets to see the ugly inner-workings of party and racial ‘preference’ over qualifications where ‘who’ you know seems to be more important to some than ‘what’ you know. You can count on me to oppose placing anyone in such a sensitive position that is not imminently qualified as Jim Pendergraph was.

On a personal note, my son is in his 3rd year at the US Naval Academy (Class of ’09). My eldest daughter is in her first year at the University of Alabama (their mascot is ironically an ‘Elephant’). My two youngest are doing their best to grow in an ever changing world. In a few more years, we will be empty nesters.

Julie and I ask for your help and prayers as we begin this campaign. If you feel led to do so, a card is enclosed for your use. Right now, I have roughly $300 in my campaign account. I try not to mail requests until needed but campaigns do run on money and volunteers. Since the election is on May 6th, the time is now.  Bill James
