The above story recouts the arrival of General Elijah ("lige") Combs in what would become Hazard. Where the existing Eversole-Combs Graveyard is (behind Consolidated Baptist) on top of the hill they set up and held their wedding dinner. They killed two wild Turkeys and later a deer down along the Branch of the Kentucky River ("town ranch"). Coming with them were several slaves whose names have been lost but whose chidlren (Phylis Louis and Hale Mansion) were BROUGHT with Lige and Sally. Two other slaves, Aunt Nance and Uncle Jake were bought after they had run from the sheriff in the Bluegrass area of Kentucky. It is unclear who "Alex" is but appearantly "she" ran away (again) leaving her baby who obviously grew up to old age and was known as "Blind Granny". |

| Clara Eversole Cornett's statment on the settlement locations of the children of General Elijah's parents -listed as Johnie Combs and Margaret Combs who migrated FROM North Carolina. According to the Combs Genealogy and other sources, John was known as the "Father of 8" but his wife was listed as "Nancy" so there is an inconsistency. | |
