 Judge Josiah Henry Combs

Josiah Henry Combs was a judge and Sheriff of Perry County (Hazard, Ky). His ancestor, General "Lige" (Elijah) Combs founded Hazard. His wife was Polly Ann Mattingly, daughter of William Mattingly. Judge Combs was murdered in 1894 by the French clan during the French-Eversole War. He was standing on main street and was ambushed from a corn field growing from an empty lot. The French were later convicted for the murder which was said to be done by a man named "Adkins" who later shot and killed the only Republican Governor-Elect in Kentucky at the time.
