Lynn Wheeler for City
Council - at large

Two years ago, I
lost my bid for
reelection in
the Republican
primary. I also lost
my opportunity
to continue
working for and
serving the
community I
love. After
dealing with the
disappointment
of losing, I
took the time to
reconnect with
those who matter
most – hard
working,
tax-paying
Charlotteans.
We have not always
seen eye-to-eye, the
new arena being a
perfect example. And
although I still
think that the new
arena is a valuable
asset to
Charlotte, I admit
the process in
acquiring it was
misguided. The eight
of us who voted for
it should have sent
the new financing
plan back to a
second referendum.
For that, I am
truly sorry and
apologize.
For the past two
years, I have
taken the
opportunity to
listen to your
thoughts on what
our city
needs. Three
major concerns
have surfaced
that I think
need to be
addressed:
ü
CRIME
–
We need more
police officers
on the street
and in
neighborhoods. If
elected, I will
make it my
mission to
increase the
number of police
officers and
provide the
police
department with
all the
resources it
needs;
ü
TRANSPORTATION
–
We need more
road
construction to
combat
traffic congestion,
and we
must re-evaluate
how our light
rail dollars are
being spent. As
our needs
change,
so should our
actions to
address them;
ü TAXES
–
The Council
needs to
eliminate
spending on
programs that
don’t truly
benefit our
taxpayers or do
not support the
city’s core
mission. It is
time to regain
the
fiscal responsibility
that led to our
current
prosperity.
I will not
support a tax
increase of any
kind.
I need your
vote
so we can work
together to make
Charlotte even
greater. Just
remember that
I am in
your corner,
ready to fight
to make this
city safer and
more affordable
for you and your
family.
