Democrats and school
bonds supporters make
false assertions about
Black vote to justify
CMS
inaction in the face of
public bonds rebuke.
In
a sad but expected
post-script to the
School Bonds elections;
CMS places West Meck High into
lockdown after a
mini-riot erupted when a
search was begun to find
illicit drugs. These
days no one is really
surprised.
Since
the failure of the Bonds
yesterday, the Observer
editorial Board and
Democrats and liberals
have been asserting in
obtuse and indirect
language that there was
no "message"
to the "no" vote because
African-Americans and
others who oppose
building suburban
schools voted against
the bonds as well.
Their theory is that the
"no vote" sent "no
message". They are
delusional and being
disingenuous with the
public. A review
of who voted "yes" and
who voted no indicates
that virtually all of
the predominantly Black
precincts in Mecklenburg
County voted "yes" on
the bonds. Many of
the white "liberal"
boxes near uptown and at
Davidson also supported
the bonds. Many older
Charlotte neighborhoods
outside Charlotte's
elite and liberal core rejected
the bonds along with
most of suburbia.
The Chart below is from
the Charlotte Observer.
The darker colors (the
two darkest greens) show
those precincts where
the bonds received more
than 50% of the
vote. The darker colors
generally correspond to
highly Democrat and
liberal areas of
Mecklenburg County. The
dark color at the top is
Davidson (bastion of
North Meck liberalism).
The one general
conclusion is that the
more inner-city, the
more 'Democrat' and more
'liberal' an area was -
the more likely they
were to vote "yes".
There are some
exceptions to this
however for the Observer
editorial board, Parks
Helms or Joe White to
conclude that their was
'no message' would be
laughably absurd were
the situation not so
serious.
Everyone hopes that
Parks Helms and Joe
White will come to their
senses and agree to
PRIORITIZE spending and
build schools in
high-growth areas, clamp
down on thugs in school,
and considering a 24/7
reform school.
Given their public
comments it appears we
are in for business as
usual leading up to the
2006 County Commission
elections making this
issue a central one in
the upcoming BOCC
elections.
