The new ad from Commissioner Jim Puckett goes after Parks Helms and Norman Mitchell on the issue of Taxes and, in particular, Commissioner Mitchell's comments that those that don't like the recent 11% and 15% tax increases of late should "leave" Mecklenburg County because someone else (presumably in favor of tax increases) would take their place.

Using the theme to "The three Stooges from the 1930's" and photo's from that era the ad appears to be in response to a comment made by Creative Loafing John Grooms' advice on the Stooges as well (see this link for the CL article). The "stooges" excerpt from this article is as follows:

Feeling squeezed by government taxes and restrictions on your freedoms? [Scene from a Three Stooges feature: Curly is yelling, with his head in a vise, while Moe tightens it]

Does the thought of big government make you feel like this? [Footage of Curly running for his life from gangsters]

Then vote Libertarian, and enjoy more freedom. You'll love it. [Footage of Curly, smiling while being kissed on the cheek by a cute blonde]

Jim Puckett's ad takes some of those skits using still pictures, adds some Stooge noises (Several "Yuk-Yuk-Yuk's" a couple of "whoop-whoop-whoop's", some "Soitinly's" and several "Ruff-Ruff's") with Commissioner Helms and Mitchells more "famous" lines.

This seems fair play considering that the Mecklenburg Democrats are holding a costume ball where folks are to come as their most loathed Republicans (see details at the bottom of this e-mail).

fancy Dress Ball (Costume Party).
