Tax Increases: The Democrats on the County Commission have said that they WILL raise taxes (last year taxes rose 11%, 4 years ago they rose 15%). These are the facts:

Gay Marriage: Parks Helms and the Democrats have said that they are in favor of "gay marriage". As off the wall as that sounds, it is true. Commissioner Helms stated that he believes that Marriage should be abolished and can not be "legislated". That extreme position was stated on camera.

Since this is Parks' last election many inside observers believe that Parks will push to have the Mecklenburg County Registrar of Deed's to issue marriage licenses to gays (much like Democrat SF Mayor Gavin Newsom did last year). Each of the Democrats were endorsed by the local homosexual PAC ("meckpac") and received a $3,000 check each.

Mismanagement of light-rail resources:

The Charlotte Area Transit System has been having serious cost over-runs. Parks Helms chairs the MTC (Transit Commission). According to media sources, Parks was aware of the light-rail cost over-runs and kept it a secret from the Mayor, City Council and County Commission. This scandal and his handling of it cost taxpayers millions by hiding the facts until they escellated even further out of control.
