Who runs Charlotte?
(Hint: not the voters)
A PRIMER ON DEMOCRAT POLITICAL
CORRUPTION IN
CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG
2005
- Dumont Clarke (D, District 4)
explaining how the Democrats
removed suburban school site
money from the School Bond
Package because they were told
to.
MPEG4 - 256K Video Standard
When
people think of property
taxes they usually think
of money collected to
pay for services for the
'common good'
When
people think of School
Bonds they think that
the process is "fair"
for all concerned.
When
Parks Helms and the
Democrats think property
taxes they think about
money they can give away
to their friends at your
expense.
When
Parks Helms and the
Democrats think School
Bonds they cut suburban
school site money
because they get a phone
call from uptown power
brokers telling them to
do so.
A
scurrilous charge you
say! Read the sorted
facts for yourself and
watch the video where
the Democrats (Fall
2005) admit it.
Here's are a few
questions?
Who exactly calls
them and tells them
what to do?
Is it a Committee?
Is it a smoke-filled
back room?
Are political
contributions tied
to the decisions?
Here
are the Details in
Summary:
-
Wealthy "uptown"
powerbrokers tried
to sell the arena
deal to the public
by "bundling" it
with an arts
package.
-
The Arena package
failed and took with
it the arts package.
-
These same folks
pushed the arena
through anyway by
making phone calls
to politicians they
own but in the
process of building
the arena spent most
of the money needed
for the arts in
Charlotte for the
next 10 years or
more.
-
What is a wealthy
connected uptown
power broker to do?
-
Just call your local
friendly County
Commission Democrat
and cut a deal to
give away ALL the
property taxes for
the next 20 years on
a 1/4 billion uptown
skyscraper JUST FOR
THE ARTS.
-
Of course, this deal
means that
Wachovia's new 1/4
billion skyscraper
complex won't be
paying a dime in
taxes for Schools,
Parks, Libraries,
Police, Fire, Medic
of Welfare.
-
The plan is to let
you pay for those
needs with
property tax
increases on the
"little people"
while they use their
taxes on what they
want.
-
Case in point -
Prioritizing the
School Bonds and how
the process REALLY
works.
-
Back in June of 2005
the Republicans
pushed for a leaner
more effective bond
package. The
Democrats rejected
it & pushed ahead
with a bloated $427
million package
which failed
resoundingly at the
polls in November.
One reason it failed
was that the
Democrats cut $50
million for suburban
school site
acquisition from the
project list. Little
discussion, it was
just cut along party
lines over GOP
objections (in
particular, mine).
-
After the School
Bonds loss, In a bit
of post-mortem
hand-wringing, the
Democrats explained
that they had
"gotten a phone
call" from uptown
and told to cut the
offending suburban
site acquisition.
They received no
such call about that
wasteful spending on
Marie G. Davis
renovation or other
inner-city
boondoggle
giveaways.
-
In Charlotte, it is
WHO you know not
WHAT you know. If
you are well
connected to the
Democrats in charge.
If you hand them
political donations,
all it takes is a
phone call and you
get what you want
-
a new arena
(regardless of
voter
objections)
-
giving away the
property taxes
for 20 years on
a new skyscraper
for uptowns pet
projects
(regardless if
it is for the
"common good")
-
cutting suburban
school bonds
after receiving
a simple phone
call (while
ignoring
inner-city pork
because those
folks "vote for
you).
Of
course, there will be
those that won't believe
that the County
Commission Democrats
would simply cut
suburban school money
after receiving a phone
call. They won't accept
that political
corruption exists on the
County Commission. For
those, here is a short
video that says it
all...........
