The Machinations of Mackey (Part Three)

Democrat Sheriff Nominee Mackey Denied Bond (a requirement to be Sheriff)

Reason for denial:

Questionable Ethics?

Refusal to take responsibility for his own Debts?

Who Knows........?

In our last two installments I am now calling 'The Machinations of Mackey' we learned the Democrat Party Executive Committee selected Mackey in a rigged racial voting process that gave Black delegates 5 votes to every 1 given to White delegates. "Let every vote Count' was replaced with "Let OUR votes Count More'.

We also learned that one other Democrat was effectively locked out of the room and certain Black civic leaders were ignoring his prior 'indiscretions' which include:

  • Filing for Bankruptcy.
  • Failing to pay his college student loans.
  • Possible stealing of money from the City (through the falsifying of time records). Mackey denies this but refuses to provide his detailed records. He claims he left to take the bar exam.
  • Comment from the City Police Chief to the effect that he would refuse to re-hire Mackey
  • Claimed living in another County when he filed for Bankruptcy but claimed he was a resident of Mecklenburg when he voted at the same time.

Today, the County Attorney sent out a letter indicating that Mackey was sent to the City/County 'bonding agent' Ohio Casualty for a routine bond.

His bond was denied.

This normally perfunctory step means that there was something in the private files of Ohio Casualty and his credit report or other information that caused them to refuse to bond him deeming him to be a bad risk.

Of Course, perhaps he will get a bond through a less 'rigorous' and ethical bonding agent. There are lots of those around.

Here is the bond refusal notice........

RE:                 Application for Bond as Required of Sheriffs

This week Nick Mackey submitted an application for a bond, as required of sheriffs by

G.S. 162-8.  Mr. Mackey worked with the Division of Insurance and Risk Management to make application for the bond.

Yesterday (12/12/07), the carrier (Ohio Casualty) notified Risk Management that the carrier's underwriting guidelines do not allow the approval of Mr. Mackey's application for a bond.  A copy of the letter is attached.

There has been a news media request for this information this afternoon.  We have concluded that this is public information, and it has been provided to the Charlotte Observer.

Should you have questions, give me a call.
