The Machinations of Mackey (Part six)

WBTV reports Nick Mackey Brother Murdered (downgraded to manslaughter) a police officer in Ohio.

Others report that Sheriff 'select' Mackey being guarded by Louis Farrakhan's NATION OF ISLAM

Web site indicates that Mackey is associated (in some way) with the Nation of Islam's 'Millions More Movement' and their view that Blacks are unfairly convicted and incarcerated in jail as political prisioners.

Is the real reason for Nick Mackey's 'selection' by Black activists in the Mecklenburg Democrat party because he wants to release Black inmates he believes are 'political prisoners'?

Controversy Over Mackey 1-5-2007

Mecklenburg County Democratic leaders say Sheriff-elect Nick Mackey's lack of openness is a flaw.

On Friday, WBTV News 3 learned about an incident related to his family past that very few people know anything about.

It has to do with Nick Mackey's brother and a dead police officer.

The controversy over Sheriff-elect Mackey began when he went to court to make sure his Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department records were sealed.

Since then, we have learned about a fender bender lawsuit, a bankruptcy in another county and some of the clients of his law firm are taking him to court.

In all of this, you have not heard about Nick Mackey's brother, Maurice.

He has been in prison for the last decade. In the eyes of most law enforcement officers, what Maurice Mackey did is the worst crime anyone can commit.

We are in no way saying Nick Mackey had anything to do with this. In fact, he wan't there when it happened.

Maurice Mackey has been in an Ohio prison since 1998. He was convicted of murdering an off-duty Cleveland police officer named David Smith.

Last year, the murder conviction was thrown out and Maurice

Mackey pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

He shot and killed Officer Smith after a dispute at an adult bar in Cleveland. Court records indicate Smith had also drawn a weapon before being killed.

Maurice Mackey also shot a security guard who was with Smith.

Mackey is scheduled to remain in jail until 2011.

As WBTV's Tom Roussey reports, this is just one of a number of issues in which we have investigated but haven't been able to get a response on from Nick Mackey.

Prison Industrial Complex
