May 17, 2005 - BOCC Meeting on "Business Investment Grants"
 
These Grants are where the County "gives" FUTURE property tax revenue back to a business over a 5 to 20 year time fame.  Essentially, it is pledging future growth revenue and is one reason that taxes go up. It is the equivalent of giving homeowners a tax rebate in future years based on the increased value of their house. The Democrats are in favor of these grants, the Republicans are not. We raise taxes to pay for services that cost more and then turn around and give away future tax revenue to "entice" business. As of June 2005 about $1 million in ANNUAL future revenues have been pledged for these purposes. See County Commission debate below.
